Successful Project Delivery
Situation:
Project Manager, Treasury System Vendor endeavouring to extend a
Back Office System.
Critical Business Issues:
- Unable to find required skills through normal channels.
- Increased risk of project failure due to critical skill
shortages.
- Tight delivery times meant that there was little time for
micro-managing contractors.
- Needed to significantly extend and update in-house skills.
Reasons:
- Internal resources were tied up elsewhere.
- Contractors have hidden overheads.
- Contractors do not share their knowledge
(which is their asset).
Capabilities Needed:
Proactive consultants with IT Finance capability, especially Java
and OO, with knowledge transfer skills.
Code Red Provided:
A managed team of consultants who were experts in Java and OO, and
who proactively provided a knowledge transfer service.
Results:
The project was delivered in phases on time, on budget and as
specified. The internal technical staff are now Java and OO-proficient
without costly and time-consuming training courses.
