Time-series data
Time-series data ranks amongst the most complex data in the information systems world. Potentially overwhelming in its ability to generate huge quantities of information, and often projected across multi-dimensional problem spaces, managing time-series data is a major challenge.

The production and analysis of such data, and making effective and timely responses to it, is of strategic importance to our clients. We bring the combined strengths of our technical and business skills to bear on this key pressure point.

The time-series distinction
The majority of professionals in the information systems industry derive their experience from fairly standard business applications. These include customer management systems, various types of accounting and financial calculation, and increasingly, workflow applications.

Professionals working outside the business arena may deal with control or telemetry applications characterised by low amounts of persistent data but highly complex state changes.

Time-series data applications combine features of both disciplines. The data generated by a trading floor is somewhat like the measurements collected by a probe. Contracts, prices and deal times can be thought of as data points generated by a natural, chaotic process.

The market is itself responding to this data in real time, and is in effect a species of self-sustaining data-generating system. What the traders cannot see in this blizzard of data is the time dimension itself. The analysis and representation of this dimension brings the business systems discipline to the fore.

Dealing with trends
Our clients use time-series data to make predictions about the future behaviour of key indicators and instruments for front-office decision support systems and middle-office risk management systems.

As processing power has cascaded down to the individual desktop, so the demand for complex financial analysis has grown.

The extraction and assessment of time-dependent patterns is therefore a dynamic discipline. Code Red helps analysts deal with this volume and complexity by building systems that ensure the timely and reliable delivery of quality time-series data to those who need it. Our clients interact with a global, 24-hour business environment and our solutions stream analysis data over secure links to them wherever they may be.

Best-of-breed technologies
Code Red works with products such as Informix DataBlade, Asset Control and Fame. We are using Java and Internet technologies to integrate the product set into clients' environments and to bring multi-platform, multi-threading and network-awareness to the systems built with these products at their core.
